Please Remain Calm(er)

March 18th, 2009 by admin

The staff at Ivelise is so excited about the newest arrival in the store: Calmer from Rowan.  Calmer is a 75% cotton/25% acylic microfibre blend that sets the standard for all cotton yarns.  This yarn gives you the breathability and durability of cotton, while the microfibre adds the flexibility that is often missing.  And if that’s not enough, the colors are absolutely gorgeous.  Shown below are calm, coral, slosh, kiwi, freesia and cloud.

Calmer knits up at 21st/4″ on a US 8 needle.  Each skein has 175 yards.

And of course, we have also stocked up on pattern support.  Check out Rowan’s Calmer Collection:

Baby, it’s (still) cold outside

February 5th, 2009 by admin

There’s no doubt that we are all anxious for spring to arrive, and it’s hard to start long winter projects.  But the reality here in Southwestern Michigan is that we still have several weeks of cold (and probably a few more inches of snow) mixed with some sunny days with a hint of spring.  The staff at Ivelise has come up with the perfect solution:  use our new Big Softie yarn to knit up a quick cardigan that will work during those transition days ahead.

The pattern is free with purchase of Big Softie.

What is Big Softie, you might ask?

010

It’s a 51% wool/49% acrylic super chunky blend that knits 3 st/in on US 15 needles.  It can also be used in our popular French Girl patterns.

Hurry in today and allow us to plan your Big Softie project!

Be Unique

January 22nd, 2009 by admin

Here at Ivelise, we are excited to introduce yarns and kits from Unique Sheep.  This small business from North Carolina creates scarf, sock and shawl kits which go beyond the basics.  Their signature Gradiance Lace Scarf seen below comes with four skeins of coordinating colors which will allow your project to gradually change from one hand painted color to the next.  This pattern is perfect for the intermediate beginner who is ready to venture into basic lace.  The yarn is a  merino/silk blend that’s a dream to work with.  Ivelise employee Brenda has made one of these scarves and claims that complete strangers have approached her with compliments on it’s beauty.

If you’re looking for warmer scarf, you can try “Into The Woods“.  These kits come with a soft alpaca/merno/silk blend in a DK/worsted weight.

For the sock knitters in the crowd, no need to feel left out because there are also sock kits!  If you’re feeling especially expressive, put the light color on the toe of one and the cuff of the other for a mirror image of color.

If you’re just in the mood to knit some plain ol’ socks, Unique Sheep still has something for you.  Their superwash merino Verve and merino/bamboo/nylon blend Sushi Sock come in equally lovely colors.

And finally, for the more adventursome intermediate knitters out there, Unique Sheep produces some of the most beautiful lace yarn we’ve ever encountered.  Take a look at their Autumn Shawl kit that comes complete with merino/tencel yarn and pattern.  You will feel like a queen wrapping yourself in this lovely shawl on a chilly night.
